I KNOW you’ve got a lot on your mind these days, girlfriends. You gotta call the caterer to add the chocolate pate to the dessert bar, call the limo company to see if they have any convertibles, call your videographer to add a video "love story" to play at your reception…what’s that? You don’t have a videographer? Call me. We have to talk about that one, um’kay? So, anyway, about yout TO DO list. Don’cha hate it when you’re driving and you’re thinking about all the calls you have to make, the errands to run, or the appointments to make, and you’re sure you’ll remember them, because, after all, they’re VERY important things–and then you forget? I hate that, too.
My career calls for being behind the wheel a lot. And it will be so until I can trust the birds with bus fare. I learned to write EVerything down when I scheduled for the President Pro tem of the California Senate for 10 years in a past life. I didn’t leave anything to memory. I wrote reams of notes, but writing while driving never was/is a good idea. Up until about six months ago, I would phone in reminders to my voice mail. That became very cumbersome, especially when the "thinks" came rapid fire, but not so rapid fire that I could get them all in one message.
Now, the greatest tool in my Dove Lady arsenal is a Digital Voice Recorder. Write that down. The one I bought is smaller than a cell phone and will record for several hours. I looked at a lot of them, and the one I decided on is a little, silver Olympus model. I don’t have time/need for bells/whistles, so it was only about $45. I carry it everywhere and use it every day to capture those mental notes that would otherwise be written in disappearing ink. No, dearies, it’s not age. It’s system overload.
You can find an old microcassette clunker on the cheap on eBay, OR you can take you down to your favorite electronics store and buy a really nice one. I bet you can even check the French store or Wal-mart. I didn’t need a lot of recording time (some will record for days!!), but sound quality was very important to me. Mine also has different folders, so Folder A is used for daily note taking and erasing, Folder B (B for Posterity) is for His Holiness, The Dalai Lama’s presentation in Long Beach last year. It has a Folder C, too, but so far, it’s empty. So I make all my voice notes, and when I get back to the office, I have a ‘puter file where I log all my notes, take care of as many tasks as I can and then delete them. I keep a running file and so far, so good! Nary an eath shaking thought missed! I mean it, you need one of these, sweetums. And get one for your patootie, too! ‘Kay? So off you go. And buy the pretty one!
The Dove Lady has her best thoughts in the shower and has left herself a message on her voice recorder to research whether anybody makes a waterproof model.
